Permits & inspections in Chestermere
Basement development in Chestermere runs through the City of Chestermere, and a couple of local rules catch homeowners off guard. We know them, so they're handled before they become a delay.
Most basement construction in Chestermere requires both a development permit and a building permit. We apply for, manage, and schedule both so the work is fully permitted and inspected.
Chestermere doesn't allow a full kitchen (stove, fridge, upper cupboards, full sink) in a regular basement — a bar sink is fine. If you want a kitchen and bathroom, the project has to be permitted as a secondary suite. We flag this up front so your plan matches what the city will approve.
Secondary suites are a discretionary use in Chestermere, so the development permit goes through public notice — newspaper advertisement and letters to neighbouring landowners — which adds calendar time before approval.
