What happens at the first consultation or site visit?

Will I get to see what my basement will look like before I commit?

Yes. Before you commit, we show you renderings of your actual basement finished — so you're deciding based on what it will really look like, not a verbal description or a generic photo. It's one of the things people are most surprised by: you get to see it first.

Who will I be working with during my project?

You won't be handed off to strangers — most of our team has been together for years. Oscar handles your design and quote up front. Once the design's done, Peggy and Kloe run the office side and become your main day-to-day contacts, and out in the field Josh, Matt, and Chad run the sites, with Josh and Matt as your on-site project managers. You'll always know who's in your home and who to call.

Can I live in my home during the build?

Yes — almost all our clients stay in their homes through the build. The work is contained to the basement, and we manage access, dust, and cleanup to keep the rest of your home livable. We'll walk you through what to expect day to day before we start.

Question 6

How disruptive is the construction — dust, noise, access?

Accepted Answer

There's no way to make a build invisible, but we work to keep it contained. The work stays in the basement, we use dust control to protect the rest of your home, we're tidy about access and cleanup, and we keep you posted on what's happening each week. Most homeowners live upstairs through the whole thing without major disruption.

How long does it take to get a quote after I reach out?

Once you reach out, we book Oscar's free on-site visit, and we typically send your quote within a couple of business days of that visit. More involved or highly custom projects can take a little longer when pricing needs to be confirmed with our suppliers — we'd rather get it right than rush it. Either way, there's no cost and no obligation.

Would you do just a basement bathroom (without finishing the basement)?

No — we only take on full basement development projects, so we don't do a standalone basement bathroom on its own. A bathroom is something we build as part of a complete basement build.

What information do you need from me to give a quote?

Not much to get started — your address and a way to reach you, plus a sense of what you're hoping to do (rough size, and whether you want a bathroom, wet bar, or a legal suite). The real accuracy comes from Oscar's free on-site visit, where he measures and looks at your space. You can kick it off through our quote form and we'll take it from there.

Do you offer 3D walkthroughs or just images?

Right now we provide photorealistic renderings of your finished basement, with multiple design options, so you can see your space before you commit. We're hoping to add 3D video walkthroughs soon — but the renderings already let you see exactly what you're getting.

Question 13

How many design revisions do I get?

Accepted Answer

As many as you need before your start date. We keep refining the floor plan and design until it's right — there's no fixed cap on revisions during pre-construction. Once your start date is booked and construction begins, any further changes become change orders we price with you first.

Question 14

What happens after I approve the design?

Accepted Answer

Once you approve the design and the fixed-price quote, we pull the permits and build out the full schedule — every trade booked to specific days before we break ground. Then we confirm your start window and get going. You're working with the same team throughout, and you'll know what's happening each week.

Question 15

Can I get references for projects like mine?

Yes — at every on-site quote we provide an extensive list of references, and we can connect you with past clients who've done projects similar to yours. We'd rather you hear it from them than just take our word for it.

What if I need to pause or delay the project?

Accepted Answer

Life happens — if you need to pause, we'll work with you. Typically we'd collect payment for the work completed up to that point, then pause until we find a mutually agreeable time to resume. The sooner you let us know, the easier it is to adjust the schedule.

Question 17

How do you handle the final walkthrough and deficiencies?

At the end of the build we do a final walkthrough with you, going through the space together and noting anything that needs a touch-up or fix — a deficiency list. We complete those items before we consider the job done and activate your 5-year warranty. 'Move-in ready' means the substantial work is finished and the space is cleaned; the final walkthrough is how we finish strong.

How long is the design phase before construction starts?

Usually about 2–4 weeks from signing to construction — the time to lock your floor plan, selections, and design. You get as many design revisions as you need before your start date, so it's right before we build. Move quickly on selections and we can often start sooner.

Can I start with a design and decide on building later?

Often that's how it works naturally — you see the design and quote before committing to build, with no deposit and no obligation. If you want to design now and build later, talk to us; pricing and scheduling can shift over time, so we'll let you know what holds and what gets re-confirmed when you're ready. Do you provide drawings or blueprints I can keep?

How do you handle permits if I already started the process?

What if the city rejects the permit?

It's uncommon for us, because we design to code and prepare the application properly the first time. If the City does come back with revisions, we handle it — adjusting the plans and resubmitting as part of managing your permits. It's our job to get it approved, not yours.

Will you coordinate with my existing contractor or designer?

It depends on the setup. We're a design-build company, so most clients use our in-house design and trades, which is what lets us guarantee the price and timeline. If you've already got a designer or contractor involved, tell us how you're picturing it working and we'll let you know whether we can fit in. How do you handle the gas, electrical, and plumbing connections?

We handle all of it. Electrical, plumbing, and any gas connections (for a fireplace or a suite, say) are done by licensed trades as part of the build, permitted and inspected at the rough-in and final stages. You don't coordinate any of it — it's built into our process and schedule.

Do you take care of disposing old materials and debris?

Yes — disposal of old materials and construction debris is part of the job. Each of our trades removes their own waste as they go (which is why we don't leave a bin parked on your driveway), and we do a full cleanup at the end so the space is move-in ready.

For a firm quote we really do need to see the basement in person — there are too many variables (ceiling height, mechanical, moisture, layout) to price accurately otherwise. That said, if you need to start remotely, we can give a high-level estimate from a virtual appointment, then confirm with an on-site visit.
